Microsoft Publisher – Summer Camp

In this exercise, you are going to create a brochure to provide information on a fictional Summer camp.  The camp may be for students who play instruments, participate in sports, or just need a place to go over the week when we are off school.

To begin, open Microsoft Publisher:

1. Click on New (If needed) and Select brochures

2. Click on informational and select a style from the provided choices.

3. Double click on your choice to create.

4. A personal information box may appear asking you for information.  If you know any of this information, you may type it in now or else add it yourself when you begin the design of your brochure.  Keep your brochure in 3 panels.

5. The first page of the brochure begins with the column that will be folded inside the brochure.  The middle column will be the backside of the brochure.  The third column will be the front view of the brochure.

6. At the bottom of the page will be a number 1 and 2 to tell you which page you are editing.  Click on page 2 for the inside.

7. On page 2, you will find all the information that will be on the inside of the brochure once you create it.

Page 1, column 1

Explain what needs to be brought with or left home for camp.  A bulleted list may be a good idea.  Ex: Shower necessities, types of clothing, games for free time, any money for extras at the camp (snack bar, movie night, etc.)

Page 1, column 2

Type the contact information for how a parent could reach the camp.  Include the contact person, phone number, fax number, and E-mail address.  An image and logo can also be inserted.

Page 1, column 3

Type the name of the camp.  Insert the dates, times, and location of the camp.  Your camp can be a day-camp or an over-night camp.  May also choose both since some people who attend may live close while others live farther away.  Insert appropriate graphics.

Why should someone attend your camp?  This column should inform the reader about what will be offered at the camp and how it will be beneficial to their children.  Be persuasive in your writing.  Include who will be at the camp (former athletes, musicians, etc.) that have how many years of experience in the setting you are creating.

Cost of the camp.  Do you offer any discounts if an entire team or group attend?  Do you have rates for both day camp and over-night camp attendees?

Page 2, column 3

Directions to the camp location from the nearest major highway.  You may include additional information from page 2, column 2 if you have more information to share and have extra room after writing the directions to your camp.
